What language is it in? If it is European, then it is likely to be the same as the Anglo-Saxon compound Æthelmær, which composed of æthel- (noble) and mær (famous).

It's most common in the Philippines as a surname, but I think it originated in Spain. I think it's possible that it came from Æðelmær, but there is already a Spanish form of that name, Edelmiro. Could it be that there are two Spanish forms of Æðelmær?
