Most Indo-European names are composed of two words placed together, though they may be so altered by the passage of time that the meaning can become obscure. Irish and Welsh names are descended from classical Celtic compounds that were used in antiquity. Conor looks as if it has evolved from the Celtic compound Cunoarus, composed of cuno- (dog) and arus (noble).
