What are your opinions on the name Elise for a girl? I really hate the "EE-leese" pronunciation and I love "Eh-leese". I think that the name Elise is normal and formal. I like that. It's not that common here in the USA. Elizabeth is way more common.

I've never heard EE-leese. Here in South Africa, Elise and Elize are very common, both as nns for Elizabeth and as independent names. In Afrikaans, the usual pronunciation is eh-LEES and in English, eh-LEEZ.

I never even heard of the first pronounciation. I always pronounced and heard it as eh-leese. Kind of like with Ines. To me: It’s EYE-nes, not EE-nez.

But back on topic, Elise is an okay name. I can see the appeal. Pretty name. It also makes a wonderful middle name. I think it’s kinda overrated though.

I love Elise! It's unpretentious while still having a sophisticated vibe. I pronounce it eh-LEESE, it has a musical sound (maybe that's because of the Beethoven reference).
