I prefer the sound of Katherine. I dislike the cadence and prominent "ay" sound of Caitlin. I also now associate it with the blogger "Mrs. Midwest."
I would choose Katherine as a full name for Katie. If I didn't have to use Katie, I would change the spelling to Catherine.
