[Opinions] Elizabeth
Let's talk about Elizabeth!
1. Do you still find it common? I know it's in the top 20 in the US but it is so odd to me, because I haven't really heard of any babies named Elizabeth born in the past 15 years or so. I feel like it was always used but then there were lots around in the 80s (usually Lizzie) and still quite a few until about the mid-90s but then it faded away. But I guess I'm wrong!
2. Do you think Elizabeth, always called by her full name, is do-able?
3. What are your thoughts of Elizabeth nn Lizzie? It seems to be the most common/classic nickname.
4. Thoughts on Elizabeth nn Liz and Elizabeth nn Ellie?
5. Which nickname would you pick?
6. Is it boring to you? Do you know many?

1. Yes! I see Elizabeth everywhere
2. If she wants to be called by her full name, I'm totally ok with that
3. not a big fan of Lizzie, like that nickname better as like a Litzy nickname:)
4. not a fan of Ellie, but Liz is pretty ok
5. Eliza! I'm a big fan of Hamilton so that's why I chose it! I also love the nickname Libby or Lib for it, I know an Elizabeth with the nickname Libby and I think it's pretty cute
6. It is kinda boring, but it's pretty cute and it's my favorite "old" type name! I still to this day hear Elizabeth everywhere!

As someone named Elizabeth, I'll be happy to answer these questions.
1. I don't go out at all, but the times I've been out, I've been around Elizabeth's my age (I'm born between 1995-1998), a few millenials (1980's) and slightly older ones (1970's). None of the children I've been around were named Elizabeth. I think it's a name slightly drifting away like Mary is.
2. Hmmm... It's fine to just be called by a full name. It depends on Elizabeth. I personally don't care.
3. I always thought Liz was a common nickname. Lizzie is okay. I do like the Lizzy spelling more. Lizzie is Lizzie McGuire to me. I was called that in 2nd grade by a birthday boy, lol. It was cool.
4. Lizzie is okay. Ellie is a name by itself, imho. I did hear it's short for Eleanor or Ella.
5. Lizzie, but spelled Lizzy, Ellie is kinda cute too. I'm partial to Liz, I also do like Elise too.
6. I've had the pleasure of meet soo many "fellow" Elizabeths in my life. It was interesting, some were sweet, some were nasty, some were just okay. It is so bizzare calling someone to get their attention who has the same name as you.
I do think my name is boring time from time, and I get jealous of other girls even with the less popular names like Serena, Daphne, or Avalon. I plan on giving my children uncommon but not too crazy names with meaning.

My stepdaughter, age 8, is Elizabeth. To my knowledge she always goes by the full name. When she was born I asked her parents how they felt about nicknames. I got a chilly response. Then I said that I thought Bessie was a great nn. That got an even chillier response. The only reason I mentioned it was that my great grandmother was called Bessie. This was someone who spent her lifetime in the 19th century, because every woman seemed not to give birth till she was 40. I suppose Bessie now is considered a cow name. I've known countless Elizabeths. Up to a certain point they were Beth but more recently there seems to be more diversity in nns. Sorry, I don't think I answered your questions in an organized way.
1 Common? Less so than it used to be: most are late middle-aged at best.
2 Full name? Most Elizabeth people prefer a nn, in my experience.
3 Lizzie? Lizzie is awful IMO, much worse than stereotypical Liz.
4 Nn Liz or Ellie? Preferably Liz, but some other nn would be better still.
5 Other nn? I prefer Betsy or Libby. My daughter's mn is Elizabeth and she has sometimes used Bess, eg when phoning in to a radio programme.
6 Boring? Popular? It is beautiful, but inconveniently long. Popular, yes, but mostly as a mn.

1. I’m in the uk and whilst there is someone named Elizabeth in almost every generation of my family I haven’t known many outside my family.
2. Children like to shorten names so I’m not convinced they will always be known by their full name but for most of their lives they likely will be.
3/4. My sister is known as Lizzie and my cousins daughter is known as Beth. Lizzie is I think the most common nn used. I have never known anyone go by Liz. I see Liz as a woman in her 50s or 60s.
5. I would go with the nn Cissie.
6. I don’t find it boring and I love that it’s multigenerational with a whole host of nn.

1. I’ve known two and known of one. It doesn’t feel popular to me at all even though it technically is here in the UK.
2. All three of the aforementioned are Elizabeth-always-called-by-her-full-names.
3. I like it but it’s not my favourite nickname. It reminds me of Pride and Prejudice which is one of my favourite books.
4. I don’t like Liz or Ellie at all.
5. I sort of already answered this but I don’t find it boring. Normally if I know of someone with a name I decide I can’t use it, but there are a few classics where this rule doesn’t apply, and Elizabeth is one. I would consider using it, Eliza is my favourite nickname.

I don't know any younger than 50, full name is do able, Liz and Lizzie are nice, I'd use Lizzie when younger, then Liz. Not boring
I think it's one of the most common English names, no matter when.
I think Elizabeth with no nn is okay. I don't like Lizzie, because it sounds a little infantile. Liz is gorgeous and Ellie is kind of boring now.
I'd choose Elsie. It's cute and not as common as the other nicknames. After Elsie, I'd choose Betty.
It isn't boring. I might use it. :P
I used to know a lovely, kind librarian in her fifties with this name. However, I don't know how her name was written, since in my country four spellings of this name are used - Elizabeth, Elisabeth, Elisabet and Elizabet.

1. It's my name and I come across a lot of people with it (in the UK), first name and middle name. It's not as common as Emily, Emma, Olivia, Isabella, etc. though.
2. I think being called Elizabeth in full is indeed do-able, although I personally go by Betsy (my great-grandmother's name).
3. I love the nickname Lizzie, actually.
4. Liz used to sound kind of dated to me, but it's growing on me. The 'z' is snazzy. Ellie is better as a nickname for Eleanor / Elinor in my opinion, but I like it and there's no real reason it shouldn't be short for Elizabeth.
5. Well, Betsy, because it's my nickname. I also love Lily though.
6. It's not boring at all! It's classic and timeless, and again, the 'z' is snazzy. I know quite a few.

1. I consider it common even if I never see it, because it just has SO MUCH historical presence. I have met more Beths than Lizzies. I think Beth was maybe my generation's favourite short form.
2. I know a young always-Elizabeth, so yes it seems entirely doable
3. I like Lizzie, it makes me think of Lizzie Borden
4. Ellie is ok, a bit too cutesy for some reason I associate it more with Eleanor than Elizabeth. Liz is fun. It seems so....sardonic.
5. That's a good question. I like Eliza and Liza, maybe one of those? Or Betsy, I think Betsy deserves a resurgence. Or maybe go really wild and use Zab.
6. It is kind of boring. I know a few but only one goes by Elizabeth.
Extra: I wonder how the death of Elizabeth II will affect this name. Will Elizabeth become more popular for a time? Or maybe less? Maybe an entire generation of girls is going to get the middle name Elizabeth the year the queen dies. Or maybe nothing will happen! It will be interesting to see.

Yes, it will be interesting to see. I don't live in the UK and I don't really care very much about the royal family. But I get the feeling that most people in the UK hate the royal family and sort of love it at the same time. So not sure what will happen at all!
Charlotte was on its way down. When the princess was born it went up a few places but then quickly dropped again. I think similar things will happen to Archie and Lilibet.
With Elizabeth it is different because she is not a baby, so not as cute hahaha I don't know what will happen.

I asked about this name a while ago! Not many responses though, lol. Cool to see it again.
1. Interestingly enough, I have only met 2 Elizabeths in my life. From my experience it’s usually their middle name. I come from a community where people tend to use a little more creative names. Obviously if we’re talking statistically though, Elizabeth is a common name. First and middle. I guess it’s just one of those names it’s so timeless you can’t really get tired of.
2. Meh. Kinda. The Elizabeth I know, we just call her Elizabeth. So it’s not horribly impossible, but I think she’s gonna get called by a nickname at least once in her life. The 2nd Elizabeth I knew went by Eliza.
3. Like Lizzie Greene. Lizzie is cute even though it reminds me of Lizzard.
4. Liz is cute. Ellie is okay I guess.
5. Good question. I really like Eliza and Lizzie. Liz itself is also cute.
6. Boring? Kinda, but not really. To me it’s not like Emma, because Emma is boring, plain, and simple. So boring, there’s a reason why people get tired of it. It’s kind of like a feminine Michael in my eyes actually. It’s Biblical, interesting meaning, common as a middle name as well, and wonderful history. But most importantly timeless. In my eyes it’s one of those names you can’t really get tired of.
In my opinion if you pair it with something boring, then yeah. It’s just gonna look boring.
Elizabeth is pretty, regal, elegant, sophisticated, fits any type of girl, and the ‘z’ makes it more interesting weirdly enough. And the nickname choices are amazing. I would say it’s a 7/10.
