Year One: 1909
Claudia Ruth Darling (frizzy brown hair and pale blue eyes) is a humble herbalist. She marries Calvin Monroe Turnipseed (curly golden blonde hair, green eyes), an arrogant apothecary. That same year, Claudia's mother dies.

Calvin's sister dies.

Year Three: 1911
There is a severe tornado, but Calvin and Claudia are safe.

Calvin and Claudia have a baby boy! His name is Casper Dean Turnipseed, and he has frizzy, mousy hair and dark blue eyes.

Casper dies of typhoid fever.

Year Six: 1914
A medicine show comes into town selling panaceas. Still grief-stricken, Claudia stocks up on cures for typhoid, while Calvin buys various and sundry for his apothecary.

Calvin and Claudia have another baby boy! They name him Orville Wyatt Turnipseed, and he has frizzy mousy hair and green eyes.

Calvin and Claudia have a baby girl! Her name is Constance Sophronia Turnipseed, and she has wavy light brown hair and green-blue eyes.

Calvin and Claudia get in a big fight after it's discovered that Calvin has been having an affair. He leaves town for three days, but comes back, and leaves his mistress.

The Littles, the wealthiest family in town, host a ball and invite the Turnipseeds! Claudia sews a suit and dress for Orville and Constance, while Calvin goes out and buys new clothes for himself and Claudia. They enjoy it very much, and Claudia makes friends with Florence Little, the wife of the family!
