[Opinions] Heron
What do you all think of Heron for a baby boy? We live near a river where my husband and I walk every day, and every now and then we see herons flying over the river and they always make us smile. We live in a bilingual (English-French) city and we like that it is spelled the same in French and English (in French it is pronounced ay-ron). We also like that it is not a commonly used name, but easy to spell and pronounce. We also like the story of Heron of Alexandria, the mathematician - seems like a pretty cool dude. That being said, there is a neighbourhood on the other side of my city called Heron Gate that has a lot of community-based affordable housing (nothing wrong with that specifically) and a friend pointed out to me that there could be a negative association with that. I hadn't really thought about this before as I don't think I've ever even gone to that neighbourhood, but I am wondering if that is enough of a reason to write off a name. Beyond this, would "most people" think it the name is tacky/weird? And if we love it, should we just not care? The other names we are considering are much more traditional and common, like Xavier, Felix and Rafael. That being said, they haven't tugged at our hearts in the same way and we would prefer to look for something that is unusual but also bilingual.

I would use it as a middle name, with something more traditional as a fn.

It's unusual and you'll likely get questions and not-so-nice comments about it but it's not a name that would damage a person later in life so, if you like it, use it.
