With that pronunciation, definitely Madeleine, which is the name and pronunciation I prefer. I don’t get different images from them, because they are pretty much the same name. I don’t find the name dated, it seems quite classic to me. Here in Australia, I doubt Maddie is avoidable, unfortunately.

I think Madeline and Madeleine are both still very popular. They seem more 2000s than 90s. I think it's still very usable.
I think Maddie is avoidable if Madeline/Madeleine asks to go by her full name. I think most people like the nickname Maddie and that's why it's used a lot.

Madeleine is more French, Madeline more English. Madeline is very dated and also dull.

Magdalene is a lot better, and won't sound too soft as if it were some cloth hanging on your chair. (Forgive my metaphor I know it might be terrible)

I prefer the Madeleine spelling.

I don’t think Maddie is avoidable. Every Madeline I’ve known has gone by Maddie or Maddy.

Well, I like much more Madeleine, I see it more elegant, feminine and sophisticated. Madeline is like... more forgettable. Common, ordinary, meh.

For MAD-eh-linn I prefer Madeline (although I pronounce it MAD-eh-line). For Madeleine, I use the Swedish pronunciation.

Hmm, not really. I don't get different images. However I think Madeleine is a little dated, yet Madeline is steady, being ranked #97.

The nickname Maddie puts me off - it's too simple and destroys the glamour of both names.

Lena is a much better nickname.

BTW, am I the only one who, besides these two names, also likes Magdalena and Madelyn? :P

I like Magdalena but it is a little clunky I'll admit. I like it in theory though. I'm in college with a Magdalena that goes by Magda instead of Maggie and I find that interesting.

I don't like -lyn names in general, including Madelyn. And I find Magdalena too long and clumsy, though I like Magdalen very much, nn Magda. I'm with you about Maddie! Who wants a mad daughter?

I also dislike Magdalena and I despise Madelyn. I also dislike Madelynn, Madylin, Maddylin, Madelinn and all of the other creative spellings.

I do like Magdalene.

Maddie is inevitable here, idk about there. We were bigger on Madison than Madeline in the 90s I don't really see it as dated. I prefer Madeline it seems more straight forward and to the point

Out of these two, Madeline. Madeleine feels French and snobbish. Madeline feels like a popular schoolgirl. I think Madeline is dated, and Maddie might unfortunately be unavoidable.

There's a 19th century Madeline on some branch of my family tree; not a direct ancestor, but a cousin very many times removed. She was always known by her mn, but I do like the less-complicated look of Madeline. Madeleine is fine if you're French; no idea what they would use as a nn. Maddie or even Mads just do happen, I'm afraid; once people stop being teenagers they seem to shake off the nn and just use the full form. Which I very much prefer.
