[Opinions] Re: Peter vs. David
in reply to a message by Starfish and Coffee
As the happy mother of a Peter David Alastair, I can speak with authority: my birth surname was Davies, so I wanted to use David - also the name of an uncle and a good friend's nice husband. But, our ln ends in -d and has two syllables, so David wouldn't have been the best choice. Peter, after another good friend and because he shared a birthday with the late Peter Sellars (whom I loved in the Goon Show but didn't care about on screen, one way or another), worked better. Also, my friend Peter's aunt had advised me to give my children three names - Peter himself has three - so that made it pretty easy. Alastair: a good friend of mine, married to a good friend, and another one had been DH's closest friend since their schooldays.
