[Opinions] Catherine etc. nicknames
What is your fave nickname for Catherine/Katherine/Kathleen, etc. names? What do you think of Cat, Katie? etc. Is Cat even common anymore?

My favorite is Katyana. I've only met one and her name was short for Katharine. I like Katyana as a full name too.
For a nickname that's actually short, maybe I'd go with Kate. Cat/Kat is a little dated and Katie is a little too cute.
I also think Rina would be cool for Catherine, Katerina, etc. but I've never actually seen anyone use that.

I think some girls still go by Cat.
That's my favorite nickname. I always thought that Cathy sounded rough. So Cath isn't much better in my opinion. I like Rin, Rinny or Kit and Kitty. They're so cute, and they sound as if they stem from another name! Its more interesting that way.
Also, some small children can't pronounce the TH on their first try, so Cath/Cathy becomes Cass/Cassie, which is also cute.

I prefer Kate (Katherine).
As for Cat, a couple of years ago I read a book about a girl, who preferred to be called Cat.
I'm not a fan of Cat per se, even though I'm a cat person.

I would have considered Katharine, if it hadn't been so popular for so long; that goes for all its spelling variants. The only nn I could face right now is Kitty; the others are or were much too popular.

I'm having a struggle with this. I love Kathryn, but feel like it's very formal to use all the time. Katie was ruined to me a while ago. Kate just got ruined to me. I'm not keen on Kat and Kathy seems dated. Rin seems like a stretch. I'm stuck.

I don't like Cat and don't think it's common now, I prefer Kate or Katie as nn

My least favorite is Katie because it was so pinnacle to my age group and region. I knew so many it's hard to remember which was which. I don't mind Cat but it isn't particularly my favorite. Cathy is still too old. I've heard of Rin before as well but it feels like too much of a stretch. I'd probably say Kitty or Kittie even though it is a little bit infantile. Idk. I like Katja but that is more of a variant than diminutive. I like nicknames but this is one I do prefer in full.

I've encountered Katherine and Kathryn most often. Catherine is less common among my acquaintances. Katie was the most common nickname among school age kids. In college, Kate became more prevalent. Katie is fun, lively, and approachable. Kate is a bit more spikey, but I like it too. Kat reminds me of the girl who was friends with Casper the friendly ghost. Cat makes me think of the animal. I'm surprised I haven't encountered Rin or Ryn being used as a nickname. It would be a fresh take.

I don't love Cat, because it looks like, you know, a cat? and that makes it seem phoney to me - but Kat seems cool. Dated, yeah but not as negatively as some other names. I knew a really neat person named Kat. She was a dog person btw, and I never really noticed that her name sounds like cat. Most of the C/Katherines I've known were Kathy or Cathy. It's dated, and kinda seems too childish or precious, now?Kate is good, on the right person. It's probably the best one, I think it has the best mix of sweet & strong.
Kath is alright.
Kitty is good on the right person.I don't like Katie very much. It's also a little childish seeming imo. Was the name of a friend Kristen's mother when I was pretty young, and I kept mixing up their names because Katie sounds like a little girl and Kristen sounds like a grownup.

I know a Catharine that goes by Cat and I don't think of a cat either. Getting in touch with her made me post this.

I've known two Katherines who went by Kat. I think it is my favorite. I think it would be cute if Kitty came back but that's not for everyone.

I just know one Cat and the rest were Katies that have become Kates.
