[Opinions] Alfred
I've posted about Alfred before, but I just realized how much I really like it. What is your opinion of Alfred? Do you dislike it? Are you drawn to it because it's one of those comforting, old man names? What are your favorite/least favorite nicknames for it? Any comments are appreciated, and I'm always up for combos. Thanks. :)

I don't like the Alf- sound - it makes me cringe. I can't get past it. But at the same time, I would think it was cool if I met a little Alfred. I don't think it's a bad name, objectively.
I like Fred/Freddie as a nickname. Obviously I don't like Alf, and I'm not a fan of Al, either.
Some combos, for fun:
Alfred August
Alfred Cornelius
Alfred Francis
Alfred Jacoby
Alfred Leopold
Alfred Merit
Alfred Milo
Alfred Patrick
Alfred Percival
Alfred Taliesin
Alfred Tobias
Alfred Waldo
Alfred Walter
Beau Alfred
Benedict Alfred
Emrys Alfred
Flynn Alfred
George Alfred
Lewis Alfred
Rowan Alfred
Sebastian Alfred
Theodore Alfred

I've never liked it for some strange reason. Maybe it's because it reminds me of chicken Alfredo? No,that's not it... It could be the Alf part. I don't like Alf or Alfie as diminutives, but I really like All or Ally (I'm aware that this is a girl name) and Freddie is cute too.
My favorite Fred name is Frederick, but I don't like any Fred names, if I'm being honest. Fred is a plain nickname. Its used a lot on TV, I think for background or insignificant characters. However,I don't dislike those names because of any characters. (I happen to be fond of one.) I'm never letting anything ruin a name for me again. So, this is just my own opinion, no preconceived images or anything.
Its very handsome in an I'm Incredibly Rich Now Bow Down To Me kind of way, Lol. Its just not for me. I would like it better as a middle name with the nickname Freddie. Most of these combos sound very holier-than-thou..
Jacob Alfred *
Goliath Alfred
Linton Alfred
Colby Alfred
Michelangelo Alfred
Woodruff Alfred
Mackenzie Alfred
Clement Alfred *
Michaelis Alfred
Maximilian Alfred
Roger Alfred
Richmond Alfred
Richard Alfred (Now he really is rich, and you really should bow down to him.)

There are those old-fashioned but cute names, and Alfred is no exception. It might leave the American chart soon, but it's getting popular in the UK.
Other examples that fit this criteria are Wilbur, Arthur and Percy.
I adore its nerdy vibe. I'd use Alfie and Freddy as nicknames.
Alfred Dominic
Alfred Elliot
Alfred Felix
Alfred Louis
Alfred Michael
Alfred Paul
Alfred Rowan
Alfred Tobias
Alfred Tristan
Alfred Vincent

Don't like it at all
I definitely don't dislike it, my first association - a loyal butler, like Alfred Pennyworth from Batman, and I'm not even a Batman fan.
As for nicknames, I must admit, I prefer Fred to Alf / Alfie. Fred is so solid.
As for combos, maybe...
Alfred Endymion
Alfred Quill
Alfred Milo
Alfred Matias
Alfred Lonan
Alfred Lowell
:)

For me, it's a classic Swedish name. It's popular but it still has a warm and comforting old man feeling to it. I like Alfred - probably not enough to use but it's a good name.
I really like it a lot theoretically. It is so comfortable yet crunchy, like an autumn leaf. It is one of those names that really evokes a piano so strongly to me, like a really nice piano, in a lovely mid-afternoon parlor with the light filtering in and maybe some candles ? and everyone is just quiet and absorbed, maybe someone is trying to read a dusty green book on the couch but they keep putting it down and listening to the piano... idk names are little portals
I'd prefer to call an Alfred Fred rather than Al or Alf. Al isn't bad, but I don't like Alfie. The problem is, on days when I love Alfred, I usually also love Frederick just about as much, and Frederick usually edges Alfred out.
Let's try some combos.
Alfred Juniper
Alfred Berengar
Alfred Marius (Marius sorta goes with a lot I think)
Alfred Xavier - modern twist or gross?
Alfred Quincy ooh there we go frumpy vintage with fancy vintage = Dandy
Alfred Ferdinand
Alfred Lionel
Alfred Percival
