[Opinions] Marnus
There is an Australian cricketer called Marnus Labuschagne. I can’t say I love the name Marnus but I’ve always found it interesting and don’t dislike it. wdyt?

I can only account for Marnus (which I rather like) by assuming it's a compound of Hermanus and Marius or Marinus. That kind of name formation is quite usual in Afrikaans families, usually as a way of honouring two people at once. Are you watching the Ashes? I find it rather sad but also mildly amusing that Marnus Labuschagne plays for Australia and Dawid Malan plays for England. Right now, the South African team could use both of them ...

Yes I am watching the ashes. Mr would rather have Dawid Malan than Marnus Labuschagne playing at 2 though he still likes Labuschagne. He is an England cricket fanatic and was at Headingly during the summer.I wish that England had Andile Phehlukwayo in their squad though.

Phehlukwayo is a joy to behold! And to pronounce ...! I live a 2-hour drive away from Newlands, and since I have friends I can stay with, I expected when we moved here that I'd be able to watch some live cricket there, as I did when I was a kid. And then there was Covid ... but my day will come.
