Like Amparo said, it’s because of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna. It went up a lot of places in the UK charts as well.

But if one event/person caused it to skyrocket, it would be the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter along with several other people in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Bryant's daughter's name was Gianna.

I'm not sure the research is correct. I've heard the name but I've never known anyone with that name. Where I work, I see names all day.

I tend to see a lot of old lady names (Rose, Mary), boys' names on girls (Parker, Ryder, etc), names ending in those ever annoying letters (-son, -lyn, -ton, etc), fantasy names (Anakin), nature names (River, Rain, Canyon), and just flat out stupid (Music. Yes, music) but never Gianna.

Well according to the US Social Security Administration it's been in the top 100 since 2006, so it was quite popular here even before 2020. Perhaps your state is an outlier.
