Off the top of my head, Horace, Hortense, Hiram, Isadore, Isadora, Hortensia, Horton, Esther, Hamish, Myrtle, Godfrey, Manfred, Asa, Magnus, Angus, Norman, Olive, Ursula, Ulysses, Una, Oona, and Uma.

I agree with most of these except for Milton, Melvin, Herman, Eugene and Arlene. They're dated to me, but not particularly unattractive. And yes, you're naming our relatives. It ain't gotta be elders.

Myrtle! That's near the top of my list of ugliest names.
Abner and Hubert are shoo-ins.

Surprised to see Imogen among those names. I understand that it has an unpleasant sound for some people, but it's kind of new! It might crack the US top 1000 names next year.

Blanche is pretty. I don't understand why it is very disliked.

Blanche to me sounds like belch, or burp.

Imogen definitely isn't new though it's Shakespearean :) I just don't really care for the sound of it

I largely agree with this list, except I have fond memories of my grandfathers Eugene (nickname Gene) and Orville so it’s hard for me to say those names are awful. I’m not offended if you hate them though.

I would add Gretchen to this list.

Hey I love my living grandfather Gordon but it doesn't mean I have to like his name lol

I think that Gretchen falls into that weird category of ugly-cute.. if that makes sense?

I pretty much don’t like any female names in my family or my husband’s family to use as an honor name, so I get it. I don’t particularly like Orville but I associate good memories with it. I do like Eugene/Gene though!

Gretchen just sounds like wretch or retch, neither of which have a good meaning. I guess if I stop exaggerating the R sound in the name it is cuter. I admit I probably exaggerate the sound to reflect my feeling of the name…

My grandpa's name was Milton and I was going to be offended on his behalf, but then I remembered that he hated the name Milton. His full name was Milton Willard and he said he "cursed his mother every day" for it.

My living grandfather is a Gordon and I can't stand that either if it makes you feel better lol

He was a great guy, I called him Bebop :)

Like I said, he didn't like his name either. My other grandpa was named LeRoy and he wasn't crazy about it so it seems to be a running theme in my family! I guess they were both better off than one of my great-grandpas, his name was Adolph.
