When I was a kid and just learning English I came across the name Delaney in a book and thought it was pronounced DELanay, :D and then later on for a long time I thought it must be DEL-uh-nee, like Melanie with a d. But the first time I actually heard it pronounced it was de-LAY-nee so now that's what is my default pronunciation.
Im not a huge fan of surname names but Delaney isn't too bad.
For the Del-in-ee pronunciation. Maybe Dellanee? I don't like how it looks at all but the pronunciation seems rather straightforward to me with this spelling. Or Delanie?

de-lay-nee... I think there's really only one way of saying it, and everyone is trying to transcribe the same thing. It is 100% not del-in-ee.Delaney is beautiful sounding and looking and I have a personal association with it (as a surname) with someone I really loved. So I think of it as strong, spirited, tragic, stained with melancholy... I don't like it as a name per se, it's way more of a surname to me, and I don't like very surname-y names, but I do like it in itself and I really do think it sounds beautiful... and I actually don't mind seeing it used as a first name as much as I normally would do, because I associate it so much with my loved one that it's just nice to see little reminders around. If I wasn't sentimental about it, I'd probably see it first and foremost as a surname and be like 'eh, lovely sound, but it's a surname'. I do not think del-in-ee sounds anywhere near as beautiful and I would actually be a bit put off to see Delaney and see it pronounced del-in-ee... Del-in-ee - Delinee? Delynee? Deline? I don't know, it's hard to make something up... just please don't use Delaney and pronounce it del-in-ee!

I heard someone say a name that sounded like Del-in-ee, and I was trying to figure out how it might be spelled. I'm not expecting a baby.

I'd say deh-LAY-nee
It's not a favorite but I mind it much less than I used to. It's fine.
I guess I'd spell DEL-uh-nee as Delany, if it were supposed to be the same name as Delaney.
Maybe Dellany.
If it's a different name, Dellanie. Like Della x Melanie

Like the surname, surely - duh LANE ee. If you want it to sound like Del-in-ee, then whatever else you do, double the L.
Delliny or Delliney would clearly indicate the pronunciation you want.

duh-LAY-nee. Despite it being a more modern-sounding name, I quite like it. I like the nn Laney. I would intuitively spell that pronunciation as Delleny or Delliny.

Delleny or Delliny works. I heard someone say this name, and my brain kept wanting to spell it Delaney even though the pronunciation was different.

deh-LANE-ee. I've met a few and they've pronounced it that way.My brain wants to make it mock-French "Deligny" couldn't tell you why.
