Before this, I would've said that Sarah was the ultimate feminine compromise name. I went ahead and looked at the popularity statistics (https://www.behindthename.com/name/sarah/top/united-states?compare=Emily&type=percent) and... well, what do you know, Sarah's popularity took a nosedive during Emily's meteoric rise!
Emily "Em" does feel like a compromise name, though. There's nothing inherently objectionable about it (barring the original Latin meaning). It's easy to spell and pronounce. Heck, I might've liked it if I hadn't been burnt out on hearing it so much.
Amelia is similar, but I actually like Emily better because it doesn't have "meal" stuck in the middle - though the vibe is similar. I vastly prefer Amalia to both, but that's just me.
