I'm in different to it. I do a lot of historical research and I'm always a bit surprised when I find it in the 1800s because it's so 1980s for me. My mom did say if I had been a twin, Amanda was at the top of her list.

Amanda was very nearly my name - and Lynne, my mother's middle name, would've been my middle name in that case. This did not happen for 2 reasons:

1. My mom's close friend, who was due earlier, also wanted to use Amanda for her daughter. (Funnily enough, she ended up naming her daughter Felicia instead.)
2. My grandma (mom's mom) put her foot down and said she refused to have a granddaughter called "a mandolin."

Given that #1 wound up not happening - and that I wound up an early arrival, and born before my childhood friend - I am grateful for #2, because I wouldn't want to be "a mandolin" either. Outside of instrumental associations, Amanda was not only super popular on its own but also bore the same rhythm as another super popular name: Samantha. Of the two, I prefer Amanda (just don't like "Sam" at all and never have)... but ever since someone pointed out "A man, duh!" to me, I can't shake that. :-(

It’s fine.

It’s a fairly beautiful name and it has a nice meaning. It’s very dated where I’m from however. I love it as a middle name since as a first it’s a bit boring.

I think it's very pretty. As long as I could avoid being called Mandy I wouldn't mind being named it myself.
Amanda was the only name my stepfather mentioned when I was pregnant.

It's a nice, safe option. I think it's pretty.

I'm surprised it was once #2 in the US! It didn't feel nearly as popular growing up as, say, Stephanie.

Here in germany it was never a common name, so here it is not dated at all.

Yawn. Not a bad name but needs a good rest.
