[Opinions] Re: Darcy
To me it's feminine. I've known two gals named Darcy personally - one was a childhood friend, and the other is a youth now.
There's also the drummer for Smashing Pumpkins, and the famous ballerina. It's pretty normal, unpretentious, and slightly dated. I like it. As a gal name.
On a guy, it just makes me think of the book character, who's the only male called "Darcy" I've ever been personally aware of. That's a squicky reference IMO, since he's a woman author's blatant romantic fantasy, and Darcy isn't even his first name. As a name for an American boy today it seems vaguely pretentious. And it kinda says to me, "mom thinks Colin Firth was oh, so handsome on TV."
I mean, I'm sure I'd get used to it on a real guy, it's not bad - just the idea of it makes me cringe a little, though.- mirfak
