I don't like Sue, Sue-ellen or Suella. Ellen is fine. I especially love Cassiana. Its so different from her first name...

I know a South African Suellen in, I'd guess, her 50s. Was that when Dallas was happening?

Not a name I enjoy; too close to swelling, and I find both Susan and Ellen dull. The local Suellen's sister is Louanne, so clearly their parents liked mergers.

I've wondered before if Suellen was picked for the Gone With the Wind character because it's close to "sullen". It also sounds like swellin', although the hyphen does help. I don't like Sue by itself either; it sounds obnoxious to me, maybe because of the legal term. Susie or Ella would be okay.

I like Cassiana and Ellen.

She was on Dallas, and one of Scarlett O'Hara's in Gone With the Wind was also named Suellen. Her real name was Susan Eleanor.
