[Opinions] Re: Lilac
in reply to a message by flossie
I started liking it about a year ago, also quite suddenly, though I can't remember why. It might have just been because of a post here. I did have an inspiring/evocative dream involving lilacs a couple years ago, so that's part of it.
I grew up mainly hearing it pronounced lie-lack, but maybe I've listened to Nina Simone enough that lie-luck is more familiar. I say it as lie-luck now, at any rate, which sounds much better to me although still more coarse than most popular names (could be good or bad, depending on taste: I kinda like the rough ending sound, personally). It also vaguely reminds me of the sound of Lakshmi.
It seems the style of these names imo:
Iris, Lyra, Opal, Lyric, Lilah, Violet, Briar, Hyacinth, Amethyst.
The novelty has worn off for me, but I still think it's a decent botanical name.
Today I'd probably pick Lilac Astraea, Lilac Siomha, Lilac Gudrun, Lilac Avdotya, or Lilac Veritas.
