Year Eleven
Sparrow gets a pet hedgehog! He names him Sonic. Wybie and Ruby move out, so Lillian, Maxon, and Sparrow finally get their own rooms.

Year Twelve
Sparrows asks out a girl in his class, Marie. They're not really dating - middle school love, you know - but Anush thinks its cute, and the older kids love to tease him about it. They break up pretty quickly when Marie decides she'd rather date another boy.

Year Thirteen
Sparrow comes out as bisexual. His mother and older siblings are here for him. Maxon thinks it's weird, but Anush is gently trying to educate him. Lillian moves out this year.

Year Fourteen
Kae calls Anush in the middle of the night, incredibly worried. Novalie's been feeling sick, and she's started throwing up blood. Anush rushes with Kae to the ER, and they find heartbreaking news: Novalie has stomach cancer. Kae moves in with Anush and the kids, and Anush helps pay for Novalie's treatment. The women grow very close. Sparrow's worried for his little sister, and feels an intense need to care for her.

Year Fifteen
Ada catches COVID-19, and ends up in the hospital with pneumonia. She struggles, and is in the hospital for a few months, but is able to leave mostly healed. Between Novalie's cancer and this, Anush is incredibly stressed. Sparrow's the oldest kid at home now that Maxon's moved out, and he's trying his best to take his load and be there for his mother.

Year Sixteen
Novalie passes away from her stomach cancer. Sparrow's in a lot of pain. He always felt close to Novalie, even when they didn't see each other often. Anush decides that, should she want to, Kae should stay with them. Kae accepts. Jolene, Ada, Wybie, Ruby, Lillian, and Maxon all come home, and they mourn together. Sonic, Sparrow's hedgehog, dies later in the year. He had always been a source of comfort for Sparrow, and his death feels like salt in the wound.

Sparrow falls in love with a boy in his class named Malachi Nitzan Harel. He asks him out, and Malachi accepts. Soon after, they're officially dating. Anush and Kae like Malachi. He respects his elders and does well in school.

For their one year anniversary, Malachi surprises Sparrow with a new pet: a hedgehog Sparrow names Lila. Sparrow moves out, and starts going to school to be a veterinarian.

Year Nineteen
After nineteen years grappling with and learning to understand his intersex identity, Sparrow comes out as nonbinary. She uses he/him, they/them, and she/her pronouns. Anush is surprised, but supportive of her child. Jolene and Lillian welcome them with open arms. Ada, Wybie, Ruby, and Maxon are confused at first, but learn to understand. Malachi accepts Sparrow wholeheartedly.

Malachi and Sparrow go to their first concert together! They go to see Lucy Dacus, a singer-songwriter they love. They get a friend to watch Lila, and they have a great time.
