[Opinions] Re: Which of these names would you rather have?
in reply to a message by ari.
Diana - Charlotte sounds spoiled and prissy. Diana is dated, but I could work with it. I would rather be Artemis but that isn't an option.
Violet - Violets are lovely in a non-showy way. Iris plants are pretty, but the matronly sound isn't me.
Clara - I actually prefer the name Esther, but I think of Esthers as either bold, dark haired beauties, or a Puritan with a chip on her shoulder. Clara is the sickly rich girl in Heidi, which is easier to not feel a need to live up to or down.
Cassandra - While both names are tragic, Cassandra feels more grounded and willful while Ophelia is more whimsical and dreamy.
Florence - Very pretty. Irene is nice too, but I prefer Florence.
Evelyn - If it wasn't so popular, I would like it even more. Cecilia is romantic but a bit too fluffy to suit me.
Vivian - I love Alice and might use it for a daughter, but I don't see it as a name for myself. Vivian is more spirited than I am, but it frees up Alice for my kid since I wouldn't name my daughter after myself.
Aurora vs Hazel - Hazel because I associate it with healing, and I think it would be nice to strive to be that sort of person. Aurora is nice though.
Eleanor - Love Eleanor! It is so queenly and dignified but not overwhelmingly so.
Luna - Luna is cute. Lilith has a goth girl trying to seem "bad" vibe, which can be fun in small doses, but it is trying to hard to make a statement and gets stale.
Alexander - I like Ezra, but I'm more of an Alexander. If I were a guy, I can see myself as an Alex.
Sebastian vs Felix - I really want to say neither. Felix is a cat, and Sebastian is a butler. At gun point, I would go with Sebastian, but, if I really were a butler, I would rather be a nerdy Alfred.
Henry vs Thomas - Ugg! They are both boring. Thomas only makes sense on Twins and even then it is uninspiring. However, I would choose Thomas and let my wife keep her head.
James - I avoid names that make me think of food. I know olives symbolize peace, but I still eat them. Oliver is very winsome and pitifully appealing, which isn't my bag.
Raphael vs Arthur - Ooh! I like them both. Raphael Arthur would be an awesome name. I would choose Raphael as a first name. I prefer Arthur in the middle since it has a strong singular association.
Daniel - Not a fan of Isaac.
Rowan - It is more earthy and appeals to my fantasy loving heart. Theodore is more historical and refined.
Victor vs Gabriel - This is tough, but I would go with Gabriel because I frequently lose. The sound of Victor is powerful, and I prefer it as a name. Victor would be the smart and athletic guy I, a skinny, awkward and non-angelic Gabriel look up to.
Simon - Simon is handsome, and Leo is to bold to suit me.
Finn - Adrian sounds like a whiny boarding school kid, who is a wet blanket at parties. I would rather escape society on a raft like Huck Finn.
