A terrible flu swept through Britain just this year, killing a great many people. In the De Luca/Elliston/De Vere households alone it took Marie-Hélène, Marcella, Victor Elton and Sophia, Miri and Shoshana, and Jean-Baptiste and Hazel.
Barely a week after Marie-Hélène died, Cesare started seeing Winnie Sharma, a neighbour nearly half his age. He tried to explain it away as not wanting to be alone at his age, but most of the family is trying to pass it off as his own way of grieving for outliving three wives.
Antoine and Beth got married a few years ago, and two of their children followed suit. Emilien married Myra, and they already have a daughter, Roxana. And Annette just got married to her best friend Hiram Abner, partially due to eagerness to leave the house and start her own life.
With the recent death of Marcella, her children are deep in mourning, with the twins doing their best to step up and be good caretakers to their younger sisters.
Shaken by the loss of his baby sister, Robert proposed to a girl down the street, Addy Huxley. This surprised Lucrezia more than the loss of her lover and daughter, and she cautioned her son against being hasty, but Oscar just shrugged and said that life was too short to sit around waiting and that one should seize happiness when it presents itself.
Mourning the loss of another wife, and his youngest child, Nate has retreated from the public eye, only seen when he goes to synagogue with his children.
About a year after welcoming their newest son, Klah, into the world Aurelia and Bidziil lost their eldest when he fell out a tree he was climbing. Notah ran home to get help, but the poor boy died when he hit the ground and nothing could be done.
Alice and Jean-Baptiste welcomed son Jasper a few years ago, and while that helped lessen the gossipmongers that was hardly their intention, but with the death of Jean, and their only daughter Hazel, Alice now has to face all those wagging tongues on her own.
Andrew proposed to his longtime friend and confidante, Lady Lucy Sullivan, and while her parents liked the boy well enough, they believed his lack of title made him an improper match for their daughter, an opinion that only worsened when she fell pregnant and gave birth to Eli. The couple refuse to split despite the pressure though, steadfastly ignoring any argument against them for the time being.
