[Facts] New popularity tool
This site's popularity landing page used to display the top boy and girl name for each country. The page was recently redesigned to make it less cluttered, and this information was removed. I was sad to see it go however, so I created a new page that will display the top names for each country side-by-side: https://www.behindthename.com/top/sidebysideThe controls allow you to compare different sets of lists. If you change the timespan to anything other than 1 year, then the page will compute the most popular names over that entire span (by summing up the number of bearers). Hopefully this is useful and/or fun!

That's really great, Mike. Thank you! How did you get the output to show the top names for each country for more than one year span when it will list only up to 10 at a time? I hope I'm phrasing that in a somewhat understandable way. This is probably mathy statistics magic, but I'm curious since the names for each country would shift and move in and out of the top spots.

The data is drawn from the lists at https://www.behindthename.com/top/Many of these lists include the number of bearers. If that's the case, then for each name in the top 100 I simply add up the bearers over the year span, and then take the top ten from that.If the list does not have number of bearers (i.e. it only has the name's rank) then I'll just use the average rank over the year span. This is definitely less accurate but it's the best that can be done.
