Miranda has been a favourite for a very long time. I know a Miranda, a medic in - I think - her 50s, who is never called anything else, but the idea of Miranda shortening to Randy is awful and I would only use it as a mn, just in case.

One of the finest dogs I've ever had was Matilda: known as Matt the Mutt, she was a rescue dog who had been ill-treated. It took her a year to relax and start believing that she actually was safe and loved. Then she blossomed! But as a human name, I far prefer Miranda.
