what do you think of using Sinai as a first name? It's sometimes used here in israel, mostly among religious jews, and more often chosen as a hebraized surname. While it's not exactly a traditional jewish name, I have seen evidence of at least one jew in europe having the in the 19th century.

Edgy, cool, an extraordinary FN, I would use it for girls, pronunciation SEE-na-ee.

yeah it seems like americans (specifically black americans) might use it as a girls' name. Since it is a place name, I don't mind making it unisex.

Not thrilled by map designations as first names in general, this one in particular feels quite awkward.

No doubt it's very different in Hebrew, but when it sounds like SIGH nigh it is downright depressing.

Yes, especially since it’s associated with Mt. Siani Hospital where I’m from. When I was a kid I assumed they must specialize in sinus infections because the words sounded so similar.

There’s a girl at my school named Sinai. I think it’s best pronounced sin-eye. I don’t care for it personally, but I don’t think it’s bad enough that I’d suggest someone not to use it.

I was born in a Mount Sinai hospital. The only non-Jewish baby there. So that’s what I think of when I hear heard the word. It’s okay I guess and I could be usable but I think of sirens and stuff. So I wouldn’t use it but it’s would be interesting to see on somebody else.
