I like Sidonia. Sydney, I like more.

I like both Sidonia and Sydney for a girl. Sidney looks more masculine to me, though I can't pinpoint exactly why; however, I generally prefer the name for a girl anyway.

I want to like it, but it sounds a bit like “sit on ya”.

I somewhat prefer Sidony - it's just got a little extra kick - but Sidonia is nice as well.I don't have particularly strong feelings about Sidney or Sydney either way. I prefer Sidney on a boy.

I love how dramatic it is. I definitely prefer it to Sidney/Sydney (for a girl).

I dislike both Sidney and Sydney for girls; I know a Jennifer Sidney whose second name honours her father, and it's fine for that reason and as a mn.Sidonia I suppose looks slightly fem with that -a ending; all I can think of is the unfortunate Duke of Medina Sidonia who was ordered to command the Spanish invasion fleet against the English in 1588. He had no experience at all, did his best, but the Armada lost.

It's intriguing. Pearly grey, bubbling brook, champagne type of name. I do prefer Sidonie. Sidney is a surname and I don't enjoy surnames as given names. Sydney just makes me think of the Australian city.

I like it. I also like its French variant, Sidonie. I think Sydney on a girl is okey too.

I like it better than Sidney/Sydney for a girl. It's more interesting. It does give Sedona vibes, as Andrew mentioned, which I also don't love, but it's not bad. You might also like Caledonia.

Upon reading it, I thought it was perhaps made-up, but I see it instead has a long history. Interesting.si-DOH-nee-ə? Is that how it's pronounced? If so, it kind of sounds like Sedona. I don't think I care for it much. For a girl, I definitely prefer Sydney, and I rather like it.
