Janice is dated and seemingly unlikely to make a comeback in the near future. I prefer this spelling to Janis. Not a bad name, but not usable on a child today.

"Oh. My. Gawd!"I cannot be the only person who immediately thinks of Janice from Friends. Right?...... Right?

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one.

I’ve always heavily disliked this name, even before I met someone with this name who was awful. It’s clunky, ugly and well past it’s time. I much prefer Jane, or even Janet.

I prefer Jane. Janice looks awkward and icy in a weird way.

Since this name peaked in 1954, the hundred year rule dictates it should be some popular again in about 30 years. That being said, I still prefer just Jane!

Long past its sell-by date. And I prefer the more traditional Janet. We had a Janice on these boards for years, and she was very trenchant about it - QueenV, if you're out there, you are still remembered!

I was wondering where she went! I'd forgotten her username, though: QueenV. Which makes sense, as her daughter was Victoria (I remember her taking some umbrage at my dislike of the name many years ago, lol).

Ahhh I remember her. That Christopher Columbus thread really went crazy I see. Wait, maybe I’m misremembering, was she involved in that? She made a very interesting exit is all I know. Whether Janis was that or Janice, she likely just thought Janis was unneeded.

She posted this in Comments on Janis:
I much prefer the spelling Janice. There's just no reason to spell it Janis. I have found that the vast majority of people who say they don't like the name Janice\Janis cite one of two reasons: It's dated and\or it's the name of the annoying character on "Friends." Neither of which is poor Janice's fault and no reason not to like the name.

Huh, I was positive she was a Janis regardless - though one who didn't like the way her name was spelt.

It's pleasant enough in a mature, no-frills kind of way. It's got a softer, less harsh feel to me than Janet does.
I also know a girl who is named Janice, but it's pronounced Ja-NEECE. Her family calls her Neesie. I think Ja-NEECE is cute too but probably the spelling and pronunciation headaches are huge.
