I was into the name Darla for a while because my Nana used to have us watch the old little rascals / Our Gang shorts she saw as a kid. There was a Darla who was the "main girl" for a time. Darla Hood. I also knew a woman several years ago online that had a daughter named Darla because she and her husband couldn't agree on anything else and named her after a great grandmother. I also used to athletically compete against a Darla as a teenager from a rival School who was really sweet & outgoing. I have a generally positive view of the name. Aside from the finding Nemo reference which was a staple of my age groups childhood for many. It feels a bit old fashioned but cute in it's own way. I could see it coming back eventually. I'm imaging future female twins Darla & Doris now. I dislike Darlene as it feels too middle aged instead of vintage.

Darlene is overly sweet and dated.
Darla is just alright. Dated, but I think if I met a teenager named Darla, it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing ever.

I find them both unattractive. Darlene, especially: like a revised version of Darling. I'd prefer Arlene and Dinah.

I don't like Darlene, but Darla is kinda cute and reminds me of Darla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Darla and Darlene are okay. I prefer Marla and Marlene.

The sound "Dar" doesn't sound good to my ear.
How about:
Dianna
Drew
Delia

Both are aggressively ugly, Darla more so.
