[Opinions] Ginger
How do you guys feel about the name Ginger? I used to think it was ugly but now I really like it all of the sudden??? Like, I can’t imagine someone named Ginger being mean. It has a warm and comfy vibe. It’s very earnest and I could see it on any age.
But I also have problems with it. Like, it’s a hair color, and my friends used to meme the word “ginger” all the time so that kind of taints it a bit. Still, it’s kind of up there. At least at the moment.

I think it's unattractive and nickname-y. Only slightly less silly than Blondie.

In my opinion, only if it’s on an actual redhead does it become like Blondie

It's cute, in a retro way, but it doesn't work on just anybody. Also, I've known so many people with dogs and cats named Ginger it just doesn't feel like a good human name. I know one Ginger, in her sixties, maybe, who wears it perfectly; she's not a redhead, but a blonde. Her real name is Virginia. My friend's parents once had a Pomeranian named Ginger. She was the prettiest shade of orange, like the prettiest ginger cat, and her fur was so soft and fluffy and bouncy, like a shampoo commercial. She got her name because the cardboard carrier she came home from the breeder in said "Ginger Bell Express" on it.

It’s sweet and I love the spice, but it does have an association as a stripper name. Honey might be a good alternative.

Really? Honey sounds more like a stripper to me

True, but it’s more common.

I've met two Gingers (in the US), very different but both pleasant caring people. One is currently my boss; she goes by Doctor Ginger at work. I'm pretty sure it's their full/official name for both of them.I feel like mostly it reminds me of Ginny, except it's got more of an offbeat retro or nature vibe like Saffron or Roxy. It's also wordy and has the popular sounding *er like Piper, Harper, Summer, Winter, etc. I think of the word gingerly more than I think of it as a hair color.

I really like it! I think it's pretty and welcoming. Makes me think of ginger scented cookies. Also makes me think of the cartoon from roughly 20 or so years ago, As Told By Ginger.

A very few people have tried, once, to call my red-headed daughter Ginger. They do not try again.

I know someone with this name, and she’s one of those natural caregivers… very sweet and caring. It’s not a name I would have chosen, but because of this person, I have a positive association with it. It’s interesting how Ginger is a normal name but other spice or color names are not necessarily.

It’s good for a pet, but I can’t imagine it on a real person.

I like it too. I associate her with warmth and Christmas, somehow. I also like how it is distinctive from its mother-name Virginia. However, I won't name a real person Ginger as a full name.
