[Opinions] Re: Sharki
in reply to a message by Bex
Those are interesting.
If they're not self-consciously Hollywoody, they seem like names for people who don't expect to go far from home, maybe. Sharki sounds like a child of beach bum type people, kinda rough, almost like it's from 1960s small town Southern California. I guess you are on the Australian coast? I think I remember saying you surf - I might have displaced memory though.
It looks awful on paper, and could be a bit embarrassing at certain times in a person's life. But I think it could be OK most of the time, for someone who has learned to pull it off, among her friends. It's not as bad as Picabo, in my book at least - although maybe a similar style. I'd rather be Sharki than, say, Grey or Sailor.
I referred to my daughter as Sharky when she was an infant because of the way she ate, hah. Wouldn't have used it as a form of address, though.
Tarzan and Chilli also give me a retro beach bum vibe. That is, if I persuade myself that they are given in earnest, and aren't self-conscious celeb-style gimmicks. I feel like I've seen Chilli a few times lately. Not in real life though. It's a little too provocative-seeming to me. Hot pepper.
Maton - Mate for short? Eh. The brand name isn't familiar to me, so I don't know what to make of it really, it just seems like Mason cross Payton.
Pheloni seems ... meant to be funny? That would get old really fast. I don't even think the word would sound good if it were just a name.- mirfak
