It was my maternal grandmother’s name and I don’t think she ever liked it that much and I wasn’t overly keen on it either. Then she passed away nearly 7 years ago and I miss her terribly and we almost used it for our DD’s mn! We haven’t done any honouring names though and we didn’t want to start anything with other family members, so we chose an A name instead. My DH’s maternal grandmother also has an A name, so it worked for both. I do love the meanings of the name Alma, very sweet.

My great-grandmother was named Alma and her nickname was Almie. I always thought it was pretty cute. It’s strong but also peaceful.

Quiet, pleasant, unassuming.

I adore Alma! It's gentle but not a pushover.

I really like Alma. I love the way it fits all ages and the meaning of the word in Latin (soul).

I really like it, it feels calming to me because of its similarity to the words calm, balm, palm etc.

It's a battle, in the Crimean War that the allies were lucky to win, and a road near where I grew up, which I think was named because of the battle. As a name, it wouldn't be my choice, but it's a whole lot nicer and fresher than Anna.

I love my name Alma, I didn’t like it when I was younger but it’s really grown on me! One of my best friends is also called Alma. I sometimes used to get teased “Elmer the Elephant”, but I don’t care because elephants are my favourite animal! I love that it means soul in Latin and young lady in Hebrew.

I like this name! It's so simple, has some (kinda dark) history, and it's vintage! I associate it with the Alma (sprout) on this site lol
