[Opinions] Is Morgana too 'dark' sounding?
I absolutely love the name Morgana, but some people think it sounds too dark and esoteric or that it sounds deadly ("morgue").I think the witchy imagery is apart of its charm. What do you think of Morgana? Beautiful name or too dark and heavy?

No, but it sounds more like a character in a story than Arthur. It's like Merlin, Nimue, Guinevere, Gawain that way. Or it's like a frillier Morgan.Morgause and Morrighan are the ones that seem dark to me.

I love it. It's somewhat dark but that's what makes it good. Not "too" dark at all.
I would only use it as a middle name because as a first name it would probably get the nickname Morgan, which isn't bad but I don't like it nearly as much as Morgana.

I think Morgana's great, and not too dark or witchy, although that is part of what adds to the charm imo. It translates into the modern world. I've noticed a few adult Morganas popping up, some of whom are bright and bubbly, and it still works. My mum considered it for me, and it's my 4th favourite name, so I think it's very much usable.

I've never met one IRL-- In your experience which version of the 'ana' ending is more popular for Morgana, ANNa or AHna?

Mostly AHna. I like to think that's the most intuitive and logical for Morgana (with Morganna for the ANNa one).

No, and I agree! When I see Morgana I also think of Ravenna or Rhiannon. Charmingly witchy, but also acceptable in any environment. I imagine a very rich, poised, and diligent lady when I see Morgana. It’s a beautiful name.

Doesn't sound remotely dark or witchy to me. I wouldn't use it - much prefer Morgan as an exclusively male name - and I've never met or heard of one where I live.

I do like a dab of macabre in the morning, so Morgana doesn't strike me as overly dark or dramatic. Than again, I like a lot of gothic sounding names so take that with a grain of salt. I would be intrigued to meet one in person but I do think it would raise eyebrows if that's what you're asking.

Personally, I've never heard anyone say that about Morgan, which is far more common and closer in sound to "morgue" than Morgana (Morgan and morgue share a syllable emphasis), so I'm surprised to hear people say this about Morgana. That said, I've loved Morgana for many years. She has figured into my Top 10 quite often, and she could again in the future. I met a Morgana in college, as well (a few years under me), and she was pretty "normal" all things considered (she wasn't exactly "conservative," but neither was she one of the campus hippies or neo-pagans). I love the Arthurian legacy of Morgana, as well.

Not dark, quite beautiful. So much so I dont understand why anyone would use the masculine version for a girl when there is this option.

I definitely see it as a dark and witchy name. I think the first time I heard it was as Ursula’s sister, the evil sea witch, in The Little Mermaid 2.

I think it's nice. I know a young Morgana and it never seems too dark or morbid on her.

Yes, it sounds quite dark, but that's what I like from Morgana.

Beautiful, doesn’t remind me of morgue, but still to dark for those who know of Morgana le Fay.
