I had a great aunt named Dick.. I can't remember her full name. I think Lyric would be good, but I can't see myself naming my daughter this. Richelle?

I am named after someone with the same name in a different language - same meaning, different sound. So I would pick a girl's name that means the same thing as Richard - brave, noble, or ruler.Reina and Adeline are my favorites that come to mindThis is a traditional way Jews name after others, I don't know if it would be considered normal to other cultures

I am also Jewish and it feels pretty normal to me, even though my family usually sticks with the name initial sound. I like Adeline more than Reina. Thanks!

You can also name after a trait Richard had - so if he was kind give your daughter a name that means kind, if he was known for making everyone laugh name your child a name that means laughter or joy

I recently saw "Petey" used as a female name in a movie from the 40s.... so maybe something like Ritchie, Richie, or Rickie might be cute, in a retro sorta way, in the right combo. Or using "Richards" in the middle name spot. I also like the medieval variant of Richenza.

I'd look at Richard's middle and last names. If that didn't work (because he had no mn and his ln was Schlotzki, for instance) I'd ask him for a couple of names he liked. If that didn't work because he was dead, I'd plant a tree in his memory or do that "name a star" thing.

Agree. Honouring is kind of a nice concept but ultimately you would want a nice name.I do like Rochelle but it's such a stretch to say it was after a Richard.

In my culture we often name for the dead, but aren't so strict about it having to sound exactly the name. I am named for an Ethel, but my name isn't Ethel. My sister's middle name is Beth but is for a Bertha. I think Rochelle would be fine.

Richelle would work though

How about Rysia (pronounced RI-sha)? It is the pet form of the feminine of the Polish form of Richard. I have a Polish-born friend called Rysia. It soon loses its strangeness, with familiarity, and could work, at least in middle name spot.

I like Rysia, thanks!

Rysia is actually so pretty. How have I never heard of this?

That's the best option I've seen out of all of these, it's really pretty. :)The next best thing for me would be Rika, or maybe Dido, but it's not very close.

Im not sure. It would depend on what he’s actually interested in as far as girl names. But I know a Richard, and I would suggest he give her the middle name Ricarda or Richardine. Just for the fun of it but gives her a real nice first name.Anastasia Richardine

Diana and Renée would both work, imo. Thanks!

That’s a tough one. Probably Rikki or Dixie? Or Richenza or Rikissa if stretched a bit.
