I think it's great. Snazzy, elegant, with a huge, bursting personality. Much like Sylvester. Valentine and Sylvester would make great brothers - especially as Sylwester is the Polish word for New Year's Eve, so it has a similar holiday vibe.
I prefer it on a boy.
It would work better as a middle name with some names, and as a first name with others? That's the way I feel about most names, except those that are terribly overused in the middle (like Rose or Marie).
