When I was a little boy, I had a ragdoll named Katie (her full name was "Katelyn Vanessa Sycamore"). I remember being five and receiving her as a gift; I didn't know what to name her. I thought about all of the names I knew; my favorite for a girl was Daisy. Except, I already had my (then) dog, Daisy, so...couldn't use that one. Suddenly, I randomly announced, "Hmmm...Katie!!"; it stuck. Whenever I think about the name Katie, that is what I think of; childhood imagination and happiness through bitter times. I still love the sound of Katie, and I find it very cheerful. As for Katrina, I prefer it to Katie; it's such a pretty and unique name. Hurricane Katrina happened months after I was born, so I don't know many around my age. I think that stigma has stopped it from being used, but shouldn't be a problem nowadays. Katrina nicknamed Katie would be an awesome name, if not Katrina in full. I love the name Katrina.

I loathe Katie, it's such a simpering, giggling, babyish, air head name. Don't even like it for a nickname.
I think Katrina is very pretty, sparkly and fun, but grown up too. My mother always had a doll named Katrina when she was a kid, and all the rest of the family expected I'd be named Katrina, but for some reason she never considered it.

Katie is a little girl in a gingham dress and pigtails or mean girl, I think all Katies eventually become Kates or Kats or Katherines. Katrina is hot red lipstick, fuchsia nails, skintight leopard leggings and a big blond bouffant. Katie is either very sweet or laughs behind her hand at you, Katrina tells you exactly what she thinks even if you don't want to hear it. Katie ignores you because she's rather be studying or hates you because you both liked the same boy when you were fourteen, Katrina is either a hot mess or the woman who lives fearlessly in her pleather leggings and loud perfume. What I'm trying to say is... Katie is girlish, both naively and immaturely. I actually have known very sweet adult women who go by Katie now I think about it, but that's my first instinct. I don't think I've ever known a Katrina and yet I have a very specific mental image for a Katrina, I think I've painted it well enough and it's quite a concrete image for the name - even though I have no idea where it's come from. Katrina is loud and confident and brash and bold and maybe not sophisticated, she's a bit retro, a bit (heavy quotes) "trashy" or "chaotic" and she has no regrets (that she will admit to) - that's the impression Katrina leaves with me. Lots of red lippy and blonde hair dye and stories of nights out, she smells like cigarettes and perfume from the 80s and she's the 'Work Mum' you tell your kids stories about twenty years later. Yeah, Katrina has heavy 'Chaotic Work Mum' vibes to me. If that sounds like a bad association, I don't mean it to - I've known (and continue to know) and adored (and continue to adore) a few women like the aforementioned, just none of them have been called Katrina, although maybe they should have been.Of the two I like Katrina more, I'd be happy for a Katrina to take me under her wing. Katie is a bit... eh.

I find Katie dull and overused. For a couple years with my brownies we had Katy, Katie, Caty and Catie just so we could tell them apart.Katrina I would love to use in memory of a very special lady who was killed in a car accident in 2019 at the age of 76. Always warm and welcoming she gave her time to anyone who needed her. Not a relative of mine but a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The last Thursday I saw her she asked me to bring my wedding photos in after my honeymoon and was so excited about meeting a new great granddaughter Alexandra that weekend.

Katrina would be such a nice change from all the Katharine, Catherine, Kathleen, Kaitlin, Kate and Katie people! But it is very close to them, and I think it's probably missed its moment. The youngest Katrina I know - OK, the only Katrina - is in her 70s.
