[Opinions] Re: Would you call these names Biblical / religious?
in reply to a message by tibby
Why is Cyrus on both the "very biblical (seems fundamentalist)" and "not religious (incidentally biblical)" list? Why is Nicodemus on the "not religious" list if Nicodemas does sound religious to you?

Nicodemus is on the one hand just a greek name that happens to be in the bible - non-religious in the origin (greek) and meaning ("victory/victor + the people"). One the other hand it's a rather prominent person in the bible, one of the "good guys".
So even if by origin its not religious, I'd expect the parents of a Nicodemus to be religious. That's why I put the Name in both categories. It's similar with Cyrus.
It's just a persian king that happens to be mentioned in the bible, on the other hand the Cyrus-Edict is so important and (at least to me) the name is so rare, that to me it's very biblical. Though I wouldn't worry, that Cyrus in particular would appear fundamentalist. I'd have that worry with some of the other names (not with all of them, though).
