I don't usually enjoy word names, and Melody would be particularly awkward for me because I'm completely tone-deaf! So, although I find Melanie rather trite and sentimental, I'd take it rather than Melody any time. There have been a few sightings here in South Africa of Allegra, all I think in Afrikaans families: I wouldn't consider using it either.
