Nothing inherently wrong with the name, it just evokes a specific time period to me, where the name was commonplace. I went to a music camp with someone roughly my age with the name Denise in 2006 or so, and it just seemed so out-of-place to see it on a girl who would now be about 30.
I think I have heard more sad stories involving a Denise (my aunt, friends' moms, other people) than any other name, which doesn't seem a point in its favor.
But it's an interesting name, it's recognizable, and the sound is ok. It's easier for me to imagine for a young person than most similarly aged names. In a positive light, it sounds similar to Elise but pluckier and more distinct.

I prefer the French pronunciation, which is seldom heard in South Africa. But, either way, I find it very plain and dull and rather dusty. I prefer Denis, but not enough to use at all.
I was just reading about Denise Richardson.
The only other Denise I'm familiar with is from the Cosby Show. It's definitely dated, similar in age to Cheryl. I can see a sibling set of Denise, Craig, Lori, and Jeff.
It has s very pretty sound, though. I like it better than Danielle.

Don't really like it, very dated
I love it. It’s simple and sophisticated. Hate Dennis.
