[Opinions] Re: Great Names, awful nicknames...
William - Bill: Bill only works on certain people. I don't like it much.
Edward - Ed: Well, it's ok, but I like Eddie much better - Ed lacks personality.
Richard - Dick: If Dick wasn't what it is, I'd really like it. I think it's cool on older people whose naming predates the common acceptance of the word, like Dick Button.
James - Jim: Jimmy is okay, but I agree this one is not great. James is too stuffy alone though - like Karen said. I like Jamie.
Charles - Chuck: Only on certain men.
Frederick - Fred: I like Fred!Katherine - Kathy: It's not bad at all.
Isabelle - Bella: Better than Izzy! Bella is nice.
Olivia - Livvy: Ugh. Yeah this is awful. It reminds me of the word livid.
Penelope - Penny: Penny's cute.
Rebecca - Becky: I don't like Becky either.
Susannah - Sukie: I agree, this is lame, synthetic. Susie is much nicer. I also don't like:
Luke for Lucas
Ellie for anything
Emmy for anything
Phil for Philip
Al for anything
Candy for Candace/Candida
Kissie for Keziah
Lexie for Alexandra or Alexis
Lonnie for anything
Connie for Constance or Cornelia
Court for Courtney
Allie for anything.. I generally don't like nicks that aren't natural shortenings, also, like Meg for Margaret. I do like Peggy for Margaret, though. - chazda
