Speaking as someone of Filipino descent, it would be unlikely that a man named Bayani would get "Bay" as a nickname. At least among Filipinos anyway. He'd most likely get Ani, Bani or Yani as nicknames.(Source: https://angkangpilipino.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/traditional-filipino-nicknames/ https://tv5.fandom.com/wiki/Bayani_Agbayani)He could possibly get something like "Baba" or "Nini" as reduplications of any syllables (but usually the first syllable) is common for Filipino nicknames. "Yaya" would definitely not be used because "Yaya" means "nanny" and "governess" in Tagalog. (Source: http://askthepinoy.blogspot.com/2011/02/why-are-filipino-nicknames-repetitive.html?m=1 )

Adebayo (I actually know someone by this name, but she goes by Adi)I agree with mirfak, bay/bae could be a nick for anything. It just sounds affectionate.

I like it as a nickname for a girl. I think it would make a good middle name which could then be used instead of the first name.I think it also works for someone whose name starts with B. Any name that starts with B. I also like it as a nickname for these names:Elizabeth
Isabella / Isabelle
Gabriella / Gabrielle
Mabel
Barbara
Beatrice
Briana

Bay could be a nickname for anybody you might address as "babe" with synthetic or ironic affection.
Because of "bae," I doubt Bay would make a good everyday all-purpose nickname.Names with emphasized BAY sound in them, for which "Bay" might arise most naturally as a familiar form:
Bailey
Baylor
Beowulf
Beatrice -ix -iz
Beyoncé
