Too turtley and too over the top Renaissance artist-y. Would be awkward if he turned out to be a dull and talentless person.

It's kind of like how people might sarcastically call someone Einstein when that person has done or said something sstupid. You might call some poor fool who can't even make the ends of a circle meet when they draw Michelangelo.
Well hardly anyone is called Michelangelo in Italy these days, it would be considered a slightly ridiculous name. Likewise Dante. Not Leonardo though, I guess it’s got more use?
