Both seem like masculine and extremely solid names for a boy. Strong feeling Darren will rise in the charts soon.

Darien is ok, don't like Darren

Darren is my husband’s name. He doesn’t like it as he feels it ages him roughly to between 40 and 60 years old. Also when we were young if we were watching a reality police programme on tv invariably the teenager/ early 20s man caught driving the stolen car was called Darren. I don’t mind it but I wouldn’t use it myself.

I have known one Darien but he spelled his name Darrian. Again I don’t mind Darien or Darrian but wouldn’t use them.

Darien makes me think of the Darien gap. Darren is extremely boring to me.
