Alexandra.Because I've met a zillion people named Katherine / Catherine / Kathryn in my life. All of them nicknamed (one tried not to be, but gave up). If you count all the spellings it's more overused than Elizabeth, and has taken on the same colorless, conformist, forgettable aspect for me. Which it wouldn't have, if its usage looked more like Alexandra's, so my bias is mainly caused by my exposure to its usage, not my opinion of the name itself. Katherine, Karen, and all the K*r*n* names like Christina are close fashion-cousins in my mind, based on my experience of meeting people named them, so Katherine also seems "older" to me, than Alexandra or other 90s-popular names like Hannah or Samantha.Alexandra seems relatively distinctive imo, and while it was overused for about five years in the US, the number of Alexandras was still swamped by the number of K/Catherines and Katies. Both names seem extremely reputable though!

I like both a lot. I think I would choose Katherine, because I love Kitty as a nickname. I like Alex the best of the Alexandra nicknames, but there are so many Alexes in the world already.

I think Katherine. Alexandra is beautiful, but Katherine is cozier, and I like more of the nickname options.

Alexandra.Love both, but Alexandra more than Katherine.

I've come around to Katherine, so I'll choose that. Alexandra has always sounded brash to me.

Katherine, of course! Alexandra is soooooo overused. I know a class (I am a teacher) with 2 Alexandras that go by Alex. And the other division of that same grade has an Alexis!
I realize they will have an age gap between you and your child, but I don't think the namenos falling in popularity
Goo old names like Susan, Katherime, Mary, Anna are falling in popularity.

Also, there are some unusual nicknames to Katherine, like Terry, Karri, etc. I absolutely don't understand why so many people hate nicknames(
Have you considered Margaret/Margot? Diana? Marianne/Marion?
My top recommendatoon: Marianne/Marianna
If you dislike nicknames, it can easily go without them. If you love nicknames, Marianne has options beyond Mary and Anne. Rianne/Rianna, Mira, Annemarie, Rennie/Renny, Remy.
If you use Marion, there's Romy, Riona, Mona (Marianne has a closer vibe to Katherine and Alexandra, though).P.S. I know this was NOT helpful.

I think it's a question for a poll))))

I like them both but I prefer Katherine. I think Kate and Katie are cuter nicknames than Lexi and Alex.

Alexandra - it has more flair than Katherine. I prefer Kat/e to Alex but Lexi and Sasha to Kathy and Kitty/Kit.

Katharine rather than Katherine. Both are good names, but too long for daily use, so I'd only consider them as mns. All the nns for Kath- and Cath- names have been too popular for too long; Alexa is OK but I don't enjoy Lexie and actually dislike Sandra.

Katherine because it is less likely to become a nickname.

Katherine can easily become Kat or Kathy but I still prefer these nicknames to Alex or Alexa.

Both are nice but I prefer Katherine.
