[Opinions] Bill & Bob
Whatever happened to Bill and Bob?What would you think if you met two kids under the age of ten who went by Bill and Bob?(Their full names are William and Robert, don't worry). Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

In my expirence at least, a lot of times kids these days don’t really use nicknames. Except for William, which gets shortened to Liam.

I would think they sounded like 50 year old white guys!Billy and Bobby sound more like kids, but old-timey kids.

I met a Bill my own age as a young teenager. I thought it was pretty unusual then as well. I think at that time, most boys named after their fathers, William and Robert, got Billy or Will or Bobby or Rob/Robby, because Dad was Bill or Bob. (I know one Bill who was Billy growing up because his father was Bill; he is often called Ted by the family because his middle name is Theodore. His own son is Billy, but the plan was to call him Trey, since he was the third William Theodore. But for some reason it never took.)My nephew is Robert and he's nine. He goes by both Robert and Bobby in general, but in the family he's often Bobert, which is Valerie's nn for him when he was a baby.So if I met a little Bill or Bob I think it would sound kind of funny, but also nice.

Bob is kinda my go-to joke name for anything masculine that needs a name, like a soft toy or a plant or a random character - he’s Bob! I think it’s a good ol’ friendly name.
While I admit that Bill is better than the other overused nicknames whiny Liam and weak Will, it’s dated and reminds me of Bill Clinton. It’s not cool in the way that Bob is.

Oh yeah Bob has been the universal go-to joke name for as long as I can remember!

They're perfectly fine, but a bit hill"bill"y.

I'd be delighted; and I'd hope they had a cousin Ted.

Well, I really love Billy, so I don’t mind Bill! Actually I think I prefer it over Will (Will feels really worn out at this point imo). I’m not sure about Bob though. But since you made me imagine it on a little boy it’s not toooo bad…kinda playful maybe? I could come round to Bobby even. My favorite thing about both names though is that they’re really reminiscent of the 1920s & 30s! Bill especially makes me think of a 1920s college football player who dates girls with names like Flo, Hazel, Gladys and Pearl :D

What about Willie?

I do think Willie is quite cute but unfortunately (at least in the US) Willie is slang for penis, mostly used when potty training toddlers I think.
Sad, because I do think it’s quite cute :(

I miss them! I had a student about 20 named Bill. Better than Liam.

Totally agree! I just don't get the appeal of Liam.
