Just FYI - I'm going back to vigdis. I keep wanting to type it anyway.
I dislike Carl & Karl because of persoanl associations. I know an truly obnoxious Karl and it's ruined the name for me. It's a family name - Karl Johann/Carl Johann was used for years in my family - but even that couldn't save it for me.
Carlos is OK. It makes me think of the poet William Carlos William. I've also met cool people with the name.

Karl is frequently used where I live, and it's the version I prefer.
They are ok
