[Opinions] Vigdis & Makeda
Years ago I read the book Gunnar's Daughter and I fell in love with the name Vigdis. (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6226.Gunnar_s_Daughter) The character isn't very symphatic, I just liked the name. I recently came across the author Vigdis Hjorth (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/736475.Vigdis_Hjorth), apparently the name is stil used. I knew it was still used in Iceland, but not other Scandinavian countries. I assumed it was a very old fashioned name that fell out of fashion.Thoughts on the name? I'd use it for a dog/cat, but I find it annoying how many people use Scandinavian names for pets in the area. Also: Thoughts on Makeda? I love the history behind the name, and I've met a few. (All from Ghana) Thanjs!

Vigdis looks really cool, but I have no idea how to say it. I am just assuming it's not actually "VIG-diss".Makeda is nice, I like it. How is it said? The only fly in the ointment is that I bet people would think it's some kind of name like "McKayda" which is kind of fun, but also tragic.
Don't like either
I'm the opposite of the others. I don't like Vigdis, and I like Makeda. Makeda is lovely, but Vigdis is an ugly thud of a name, IMO.
I like Vigdis because it is so ugly and thumpy - it was perfect for the book. I wouldn't use it, though, save for a bad tempered cat/dog. Makeda, though, I would use. I've been researching Queen Makeda and it's fascinating.
I like me some ugly, clunky names, but Vigdis just isn't one I can warm to.
Vigdis is a fave! Like years ago it was my fake name. I dont like Makeda.
Interesting! I, too, used Vigdis as username, and in fact just returned to using it. Have you read Gunnar's Daughter? I just added Undset's other work to my to-read list, and I'm curious about Vigdis Hjorth's books.
No, I have not. I heard it somewhere and thought I liked it, for the same reasons as you. It's so memorable.
You do realize that you're not fooling anyone, right?Everyone knows you're Agata, everyone knows you're doing the same shit, and the fact that you're continuing this BS is insane.Pleaes grow up, and please - stop obsessing over me. It's beyond old.
I love Vigdis! It's so wintry and dramatic.Makeda doesn't appeal to me—unfortunately, it makes me think of Makenna and the like.
