[Opinions] PNL stories
Here are some questions surrounding PNLs.
1. How many names are on your PNL?
2. Are there more girl or boy names?
3. What’s the longest your list has ever been?
4. What are some names you’re surprised are on your list?
5. What are some names that used to be on your PNL that you’re embarrassed to think about?
6. What are your longest standing names?
My name list is 145 names. About 100 of those are girl names - I’m way more picky for boys. The longest it’s ever been is 1200, at which point I would add literally every name that took my fancy without thinking if I’d want to use it. A year later and I’ve cut it down to size…
The names I’m most surprised by are probably Violet and Nora, names I used to hate with a passion but now really like; also Ivy, which I’ve deleted many times but it always comes back and I honestly love it now; and Vivian for a boy (the only name I like on both genders).
When my PNL was super long, I had some embarrassing names like Aramaya and Peridot on there. Not my best moment!
Remarkably, there are six girls names that have been consistently on my list since the age of ten. Willa and Iris have been there from ten; Katherine has been there from nine; and Rose, Grace and Lucy have been there for as long as I can remember! I still love all of them.

1. Er... 9798 names. I have 20 PNLs - one list for submitted names I want to see on the main database, one for names I'd use in real life, two for names I'd chiefly use for fictional characters (male and female, respectively) and the rest are various names I like.
2. Feminine names.
3. Right now. In fact, I'm adding new names and deleting the ones I stopped liking.
4. I don't know exactly, but I didn't expect liking Kazakh and Kyrgyz names so much.
5. I'm embarrassed of none, but I can say that the oddest names, by far, on my PNLs are C’Ək’ʷ-ded and Gʷašʲaxʷəraj... seriously, they exist!
6. The majority of names I'd use in real life.

.... Why would you be embarrassed about the names on your Personal Names List?? If you're embarrassed by Peridot I think your head would explode if you saw some of the things I have on mine.
1. I have 1,888 names on my lists. I have the maximum number of lists allowed, 15, which is frustrating for me. I need more lists!!
2. Overwhelmingly more girl names than boy. I first got into names because I wanted to change my own, so I got into the habit of "searching" for girl names and became far more interested in female names.
3. I can't remember how long the list has been, it's definitely been longer than 1,888 though.
4. Surprises: I never thought I'd like Barbara, but it's on a list! Also Peyton, I'm actually quite proud of my arc with that name. Enemies to lovers.
5. None. I'm not embarassed by any of them.
6. I've had these lists so long, and they have changed so many times, I have no idea what my longest standing names are.

1. About 91
2. I have more boy names, but I think that’s just because I have high standards for girl names.
3. I had roughly 300 until earlier this year.
4. Cherry, I know I shouldn’t like it as much as I do lol.
5. Velvet…I was 15 and I watched the movie National Velvet, I still like the name in the context of the book but irl…it’s a little cringe :/
6. Hmm maybe Augusta? I gave it to my cat when I was 11 and I still love it.

1. How many names are on your PNL?
2877. I have the maximum number of lists (15). There's dozens if not hundreds of duplicates, though. They're unorganized and unwieldy, so I don't really look at them anymore. There's 2 massive "main" (& "main extended") lists which are basically the default one (collectively they have 700) and a long one of user submitted names. I used them to keep track of my top tens per year for a while, so that's another few of them. The shortest one has 61 names and is titled "OOO sound names"...
2. Are there more girl or boy names?
Idk, probably girl names.
3. What’s the longest your list has ever been?
Now, I guess.
4. What are some names you’re surprised are on your list?
For this, I looked at a couple lists (creatively called "on my mind" and "now") and saw a few I don't immediately recognize: Eutychia, Charalampos, Animikii.
5. What are some names that used to be on your PNL that you’re embarrassed to think about?
If there were any, they're still there... Nicodeme, and I'm gonna assume Philadelphia is on one, so that's a couple at least. I remember thinking Cameo would be a cool name when I was a teenager, but that was before my BtN days.
6. What are your longest standing names?
Idk (do you mean which have been on the list longest? no idea). There's all sorts of names I heard when I was a kid? I've always liked a lot of biblical names (it's part of why I was interested in names as a kid), so, things like Miriam and Joseph (and Methuselah, Meshach, Vashti, Syntyche, etc)? The ones that reoccured the most in my oldest top 10 lists (at least from what I see on my top 10s PNLs) were Amadeo, Emeric, and Gwendolen, followed by Octavia, Veronica, Solomon, Gabriel, Damien, and Isidore; they're OK, but I don't like them as much as I did 7-8 years ago.
