It's mostly classic boys' names for me. I love William and Alexander, but Will/Liam and Alex are so dull to me. Same goes for David vs Dave, Christopher vs Chris, Robert vs Bob etc.

The big ones, for me, are Gabriella / Gabrielle (Gabby / Gabi) & James (Jim / Jimmy). There's also Penelope "Penny," I'd try to push for Nell in that case.

Can't think of any that I LOVE and hate a nickname for, only ones that I like.
I like Garrett a lot, but I dislike Gary.
I like Fiona. I don't like Fee or Fifi.
I like Laurence but have never liked Larry.
Harold is okay - I don't like Harry.
I like Addison, and not Addie.
Robert is fine but I don't like Rob, Bert, or Bertie.
Dorothea are Dorothy are fine, but I don't like Dotty or Dolly.

I wouldn't avoid a name I loved because of the nicknames. That just seems weird to me. Just don't use the nickname if you hate it.But as for names I love with nicknames I hate:
Angela/Angelina/Angelica - Angie
Bridget - Biddy
Camilla - Cammie
Cassandra/Cassidy - Cassie, Cass
Charlotte - Charlie
Daniel - Dan
Dominic - Dom
Elizabeth - Betty, Liz, Elsie
Francesca - Frannie
Janelle - Jan
Jessica - Jessie
Jillian - Jill
Josephine - Posy, Josie, Jo
Judith - Judy
Laura - Laurie
Megan - Meg
Natalie/Natalia - Nat, Natty
Peter - Pete
Phillip - Phil, Pip
Priscilla - Prissy
Samantha - Sam
Scarlet - Scar
Stephanie - Stevie
Theodore - Teddy
Veronica - Ronnie, Vonnie
Vincent - Vinnie
Winona - Winnie

Even if you don’t use the nickname that doesn’t prevent other people from using it though, especially if it’s a really common nickname (like Gwen for Gwendolyn). And if the kid actually prefers that nickname then you’ll have to hear it all the time. It might be petty but I’d like to avoid that.

Madeleine: Dislike Maddy/Maddie
Gabrielle: Dislike Gabby. (Also a cousin of mine has a daughter named this, so it wouldn't be useable for me to use anyway)
Douglas: Don't care for Doug

I think Alexandra and Alexander are both beautiful but I'm sick to death of Alex.I like a lot of the Chris- names yet I hate Chris!I love the "Anton" family of names but I dislike Tony and Toni. Gabrielle, Gabriela, and Gabriel are lovely but I can't stand Gabby or Gabe. I'm sure there's more, but those are the first that come to mind.

I love Eleanora, but wouldn’t use it because I hate Ellie and not a fan of Nora and they’d be the obvious nicknames. I’d prefer Nell or Nella. Leni would be interesting too.
