It’s going to be set in current/near future UK, so the character would’ve been born around the 2000s. I’m not too worried about popularity because I know neither were very popular, more just what people think of / associate with the names and if there’s anything such as pronunciation I should worry about. Thank you!
Shilo feels very American, Mari is more European.
Shilo feels younger and vulnerable, Mari seems more mature and capable.
Shilo is trendy, Mari is more "elegant".
Mari might have some pronunciation issues - I'm saying it MARR-ee, but perhaps people might think it's Mary or Marie. Shilo is a bit more straightforward I suppose.
I prefer Mari, because Shilo has military associations for me (a base with that name is nearby). But I don't think others will have that issue, and might instead just think of the Jolie-Pitt celebrity kid?
Middle names are tricky, I'd be curious about the parents and their background and think about what they would pick. But just based on sound alone, these might be nice:
Mari Alexandra
Mari Cassandra
Mari Juliette
Mari Annabelle
Mari Genevieve
Mari Amanda
You could always go for a typical filler middle for the era as well. Or use a very popular name from that time. What was cool in the early 2000s?
Mari Grace
Mari Rose
Mari Elizabeth
Mari Hannah
Mari Amelia
Mari Abigail
I like Mari with something longer but that's just me.
